In the summer of 1995 a young lady got a ticket for underage drinking. She never said anything to her parents and paid the citation. She was busted three more times for drinking under the age of 21. A few years later when she was about to graduate college she decided to apply for her license. She contacted PennDOT and they told her she would have to serve 5 years and 6 months of suspension before she would be allowed to get her license! She was SHOCKED that she had so much time to serve. She left the PennDOT office very upset and did not know what to do. After graduation she took a job that was easy for her to get to without transportation even though she knew she should be in a much better job making a lot more money.
A few years later she contacted us. We explained her situation and told her what needed to be done.
In Pennsylvania if you are found guilty of underage alcohol violations the first violation is 3 months suspension, the second is one year suspension, and the third and all following violations are two years of driving privilege suspension each. She never had a license and never thought anything of the suspension time when the judge told her this after each ticket!
To make the problem worse, 11 years after this all started she still had to serve 5 years and 6 months of suspension time. She never acknowledged her suspension with PennDOT! She did not have a license to turn in and she never completed the form (DL-16) to let PennDOT know that she knew she was under suspension.
After we completed the investigation we saw that there was hope! We were able to get her credit for her suspension from over 6 years ago! Once this was done she was able to go right to her local PennDOT office and take the test to get her license! She was driving again right away and was able to get the job she always wanted and deserved.
